The Wildflower Run Goes Virtual!
Why a Virtual Run?
With the rapidly evolving restrictions on public gatherings, we are no longer able to safely have the Wildflower Run participants all together in a single physical location.
We are a non-profit, all-volunteer event. All proceeds go toward local scholarships, leadership programs, community grants, and more. We are excited that a virtual run will enable the runners to join in the fun, get their swag, and support our causes. And we want you to stay healthy!
What is a Virtual Run?
A virtual race is a race that can be run or walked from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on your home treadmill, or on the track. You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself. And, before your run, your tee-shirt and other swag will be waiting for you at the designated packet pickup location (or you can request it to be mailed to you before your planned run date).
If a virtual run sounds difficult because you don’t have a wearable device like a Fitbit or Garmin, there are budget-friendly options to track your run/walk. Strava and MapMyRun are just two of many free fitness apps available for download from the app store. Just open the app of your choice and carry your phone with you while you exercise. Or, for a simpler, lower tech solution, you can download our 5K or 10K route maps and follow our route at your convenience.
Participate in our Virtual Wildflower Run
With the extended restrictions from government agencies on public gatherings, we have extended the dates for our virtual run to any day through Sunday, May 3.
Receiving Your Swag
While we had previously hoped to safely provide a drive-through packet pickup, the continued uncertainty associated with the length of the county’s “Shelter-in-Place” order, has resulted in our decision to email you your bib number and, optionally, mail you your swag. Per our April 5 email. if you requested your swag–we set a deadline of April 11 for you to submit request details (including t-shirt size/s and mailing address)–your packets were mailed or delivered April 13 and 14. Mailing is now completed. Packets included: Tee-shirts, run bibs, 2K Kids’ medals, bonus baby-tees (for stroller riders), and goodie bags items (including flyers and coupons from our sponsors). Questions or problems with your requested delivery? Contact us at swag@WildflowerRun.org.
Are There Prizes? Yes!
In lieu of winner prizes and medals, we’ll be giving everyone an opportunity for prizes! At the close of the Virtual Run (May 3), we will be giving away gift certificates for:
- Youth Participant Prizes: (Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center (WREC) Classroom Programs, Sweet Retreat, Gilroy Gardens)
- Restaurants (Ladera Grill, Chili’s The Hill, Betsy’s Restaurant, Josephine’s Bakery, Parktown Pizza, Nick the Greek, Betto’s)
- Destinations (Monterey Bay Aquarium, Guglielmo’s Winery wine tasting, South Valley Civic Theatre tickets)
- Merchandise/Services (Bike Therapy, BookSmart, Artistry in Hair)
In addition, until then, we are having ongoing early bird drawings for xxx Trader Joe’s gift cards. (Names drawn are still be eligible for the final drawings.)
How Do I Enter the Drawings?
