About the Wildflower Run

This is the 34th year of the AAUW Morgan Hill Wildflower Run. It was first presented in 1984, just two years after the branch was chartered, for the express purpose of raising funds to support education for women. The first race was for women and girls only, and the organizers were surprised by the large turnout of more than 200 runners.

Over the years, the run has grown in size, added more races, changed locations, offered a variety of tee shirt designs, used technology, substantially increased the amount of money raised and expanded the number and type of scholarships offered. The purpose, however, remains the same: to provide funds to support education of women and girls.

For the Wildflower Run’s 30th anniversary we created a commemorative history book. Click here to view the book online or to download it.

In 1984 the Run raised $1000 that was donated to AAUW Educational Foundation. In 2016, the Run had 1000 participants in the 10K run, 5K walk or run, 5K stroller, 2K Senior Run/Walk and 2K run for kids and raised almost $49,000 from run proceeds and contributions from individuals and local business sponsors. This will enable the Morgan Hill Branch to make a substantial donation to AAUW Funds; send eight middle school girls to Tech Trek, a science and math camp under AAUW California; provide eight scholarships to local high school girls and community college women; conduct a speech contest, Speech Trek, for high school students; and provide follow-up grants to several previous scholarship winners who are completing their college education. Also new in 2016 are our Community Action Grants, awarded to local non-profits for projects that further AAUW’s missions for women and girls.
